24 TTW players achieve ITTF “Bronze Level” awards

Twenty four of Wellingtons most promising under 15 players from the Empire, Moonshine, Waterloo and Karori table tennis clubs recently completed an eight week coaching programme with the goal of achieving the International Table Tennis Federation Bronze Skill award. During the last two sessions testing was carried out by TTW Head Coach Andrew Hubbard and TTW High Performance Manager Julian Wootton. TTW coach Hayden Tapp was also there to provide assistance. Some of the areas assessed during the testing included reaching consistency targets using correct technique on both the forehand and backhand topspin and backspin strokes, demonstrating side to side footwork techniques and answering a number of questions regarding the laws of table tennis. By the end of testing all twenty four players had met the requirements to obtain the International Table Tennis Association(ITTF) Bronze level skill award
TTW Head Coach Andrew Hubbard commented “I was very happy with the efforts of all the players, we covered a lot of material during the eight weeks and there was a big improvement in all the players by the end of the program. I am sure we will see a number of these exciting young players in future TTW representative teams.”
The Youth Development squad resumed training on Thursday 22nd October and will be working towards the ITTF ‘Silver Skills’ Award. Players from the Titan and Onslow clubs have joined the squa
